Meet the Maker, Esther Joo, of

Esther Joo, a Vancouver-based gal that currently works in HR while running her well-established jewelry company on the side! Esther attained her BoA in Communications, and while working her corporate 9-5, found that it was difficult to find quality, dainty jewelry that was affordable. 

4 years ago, in 2019, Esther began her passion project - For The Seconds Jewelry. She wanted to offer good quality, minimalistic items that people could wear day after day at a super-affordable price point. Some of our Local Space favourites are the Grace Vicki Necklace, as well as the Jynn Earrings.  

"We don't just make jewelry, we make forever keepsakes. We offer custom, in-house diamond-tip engraving where you can personalize your jewels with your own handwriting! For The Seconds is proud to be an AAPI, woman-owned and operated, local Vancouver business. Her biggest support and number-one employee is her husband, David, who helps with photography, website building, packaging and shipments. "I wouldn't be able to operate FTS without him!" she states. Esther's jewelry is sold nation-wide, something she never thought would happen.

Without their loyal customers, FTS would not be where it is today. It is the key to their growth; word of mouth, seeing jewelry on a friend or colleague only to ask where it's from, and receiving customer referrals are a majority of the ways in which Esther attributes her success of the brand. Custom in-house engraving was a feature that helped their growth, it was featured at Holt Renfrew for Mother's Day, and again for the holiday season. She loved working with the Holt Renfrew group, and having the privilege to offer on-the-spot engraving for her customers. 

Today, she's in love with how her passion, turned idea, turned passion-project has been her little baby. How FTS has become her source for making new connections, building new friendships and experiencing moments that she'd have never gotten to without being on this journey. 

Esther hopes for continued growth within her business, (as we all do) though her largest value will always be maintaining a work-life balance and continue to stay in-tune with mental health and wellness. They hope to continue what they are doing, to meet more amazing businesses and people, and strive for that continued growth while doing so. She started FTS to bring a little sparkle to every moment in our lives, and she hopes to have the privilege of continuing to do so for more people.
