Meet the Maker | Bush Berry

Meet the maker of Bush Berry (Tea), Christine Riediger!

First located in Chilliwack, BC, Christine Riediger first began Bush Berry Tea after realizing that her green thumb could be beneficial to not only her green landscape, but also to the public by offering low-waste, delicious herbal teas.

Originally the head-grower in the seed and propagation department of a large greenhouse in the Lower Mainland, Christine expanded her knowledge into growing a plethora of beautiful florals & gardens among her home in Chilliwack. From poinsettias, hydrangeas, and spring bedding plants along with potted vegetables and herbs, she noticed just how much she loved working with herbs and practiced this heavily until she could consider herself an herbalist.

When the Riedigers began their family in 2014, she wanted to see if she could establish a business making teas in her free-time in the early months of maternity leave. Finding relative success, she returned to her job, but only part-time while continuing to attend markets retailing her homemade teas. They opened a little shop on their property which happened to be on the Fraser Valley Circle Farm, and sold directly to customers Thursday to Sunday from this shop.

The business expanded rather rapidly due to the popularity of their unique, low-waste, 100% plastic-free products that were curated from locally grown, organic and ethically sourced material. Reaching a team of up to 3 individuals, Christine felt that she had something special. In 2023, with the stretch of survival throughout the pandemic and today’s economy, Bush Berry downsized the business and are back to a one-man-show. They’re hopeful to continue their expansion and regain the ability to employ more Canadians in their newfound home of beautiful Nakusp, BC.

Christine is motivated by her customers, hearing how special her teas are from the conventional, large-quantity manufactured, brands. She (and her customers) love the flavour of loose leaf, and the way the textures and flowers among it bring a beautiful tea experience to each cup. She is most proud of their packaging, and is proud to be a leading influence in the compostable packaging world.

We here at The Local Space love Bush Berry Tea. It is one of the primary tea-brands that we carry. Over the holidays, we brought in her Pumpkin Spice Tea (on sale with remaining quantities today) and it was a TRUE taste of that fall flavour. You can also often see some local favourites such as the Peppermint and Apple Cinnamon flavours. Bush Berry does not ONLY make tea either, we currently carry their outstanding Elderberry Juice Kit that produces 1L of fresh juice that boosts your immune system!

Upcoming things to look out for with Bush Berry? They will be releasing a few new teas this year, including 3 Spring Teas over the next few weeks. Their building advent calendars, and a speciality tea created for International Women’s Day where proceeds will be donated to a Women-Lead Organization. Keep your eyes peeled on their instagram page for more details on these products!

As a way to say thank you, Christine has provided us with permission to offer a $75 shop credit to Bush Berry’s online store. Check back to The Local Space’s IG page for details on how to participate in this giveaway.
