Meet The Maker | Those Pretzels

The Floer Family's secret pretzel seasoning started Those Pretzels.

We chatted with Marilyn, the creator and owner of Those Pretzels! Get to know the business a little bit more and see why The Local Space loves stocking Those Pretzels all year round!

Tell us a little bit about your business:

My husband and I started to make this old family recipe at xmas time for family and friends. As that is the time of year his family made it when he was growing up. We had  2 children and now were starting our own traditions.  It seemed like everyone who tried them, loved them, and said we should sell them, so we did.

What was the inspiration of your business:

I think Rick and I were already worried about teaching our children work ethic. So at the ages of 9 and 10 our children , Emma and Sam, helped make little baggies and put red ribbon and xmas stickers on the bag, and sold them around our neighbourhood block. People actually bought our pretzels - and that was the very humble beginnings of our journey.

By the time next xmas rolled around , people were already asking for them. And those people told 2 people and those people told 2 people, and so on. We did not have a website for 7 years, just grew by word of mouth and 1 email at a time.

How did you choose the name for your business:

We chose the name, because as we grew in popularity, people would recognize me at the kids school or doing deliveries etc. And when they would see me coming, they would always say " hey , aren't you the lady that sells those pretzels". The name in the beginning was Floer Family Pretzels, and no one could remember that. Everyone just kept calling them those pretzels - so that was it!

Best thing about your job:

The best thing about my job is sprinkling pretzel happiness one pretzel at a time. Food brings people together and provide great joy!

Where are you based out of:

We now have a production facility in Surrey

What has been your biggest struggle with your business:

Luckily, the biggest struggle has been to learn how to produce more to keep up with the demand.

What is your most popular product?

We only have 1 product and 1 flavour, and are trying to do 1 thing really well, before we add anything else.
